Food For People and the Planet
From the Soil to the Soul
At the Fresh Sourdough Express, we offer food that is both good for you and the planet. Since 1982 we have strived to serve as much organic and local food as possible. We feature the best Alaskan seafood, local beef, and plenty of Vegetarian & Vegan options using as much seasonal Homer grown produce as possible. There is no skimping on the value you receive when you are served a delicious, robust meal, teeming with regional flavor and quality, from one of our smiling servers.
Serving local food helps to build the local economy and assures freshness in all that we prepare. We encourage more small scale farmers to be good steward of the land, requesting organically grown produce and humanly raised meat products.
We believe that the food we consume directly affects our health and the health of the plant. The less it travels, how it is grown and packaged all makes a big difference.
We strive to be a zero waste facility by composting all of our food scraps, recycling everything possible, using the least amount of packed food, and implement energy efficient appliances and practices into our establishment.
We believe that customer service makes all the difference in your experience while you dine. It is our honor and intention to serve our customers in a manner that is welcoming and enjoyable.

OH.MY.GOSH. I don’t know where to start…. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with happy smiley faces and chilled out funky music. We started with coffee and it was an AWESOME brew and they even gave us free samples of their baked goods while we waited for our food. We ordered the St. Augestine, the smoked salmon scramble, & cinimon french toast. It was all insanely tastey and blew our minds! The French toast is the best weve ever had! Portions were big, I tried to finish mine because it flippin good, but was stuffed!
Our waitress Ala was so nice and helpful! We loved it so much we bought the bread to make our own french toast! We’ll be coming back next time were in Homer! Such a gem and awesome to know their progressive in Eco friendly practices and support local organic products!! Yum yum yum!!
Long story short, every aspect of the meal was superb. More than you can eat and excellent tasting to boot…. I don’t know much about Homer, but I now know where to get a good breakfast!
Prices were more than fair. I would return in a heartbeat…. Somehow you know in your gut when you’ve found a place worth returning to time and time again.
When we arrived about 9.30 Sunday morning we were seated immediately and thought things were pretty quiet. Within fifteen minutes the place was packed, and when our food arrived we could see why it’s so popular. Delicious pancakes for the whole family, and our first experience of biscuit and gravy. Yum! Our first ‘real’ American breakfast and we loved it.
The Sourdough Express is one of the “must dos” for any Homer vacation. Do the 1/2 day Halibut trip and then go to the Sourdough for brunch. The food is hearty – I’d call it traditional Alaskan stick to your ribs with an environmental/green veggie ethic thrown in. Baked goods are great.
